Now we are 7 years later and wineries are still putting up road blocks as to why they "don't have time" or "I don't understand" it.
I watched a video with Paul MaBray of Vintank about "How the Wine Industry Needs to Adapt or face Digital Darwinism". He says by not participating in Social Media and/or not replying when one of your customers tries to interact with you is like "not answering the telephone when it rings".
Many winemakers say they don't have time to use FB, Twitter, LinkedIn or whatever medium their customers are on. It takes a couple minutes to browse through your FB page and interact with your customers or to post a quick status of what is going on with your winery.
I am embedding a video from Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics. I really recommend you take 5 minutes, the length of this video, and watch it. I also recommend you turn up the volume and use the pause button to read. This video is very impactful and I get so stoked when I watch it. Erik Qualman says "We don't have a choice on whether we do social media, the question is How Well we do it?"
After this video, you should ask yourself, why haven't I been listening? Then get on the bandwagon!
Here a few of things that really made me think about marketing efforts. Remember that the up and coming generations don't use their phones to make calls, they use them to text, and log onto their social networking apps. If you are not targeting your market properly you will miss them. They don't read magazines, they don't use phone books. They use electronic devices!
