I am not sure how Robert Parker exudes his passion for wine. Maybe since he has tasted so many, it is like a familiar feeling that no longer gives that spark.
For me, wine is a very sensual thing about 25% of the time. You can't tell me when you get that really special bottle of wine, you know the one you tried, loved and bought for that "special" occasion? When you finally decide to open it, it is carefully planned. You open the bottle, maybe decant or pour a glass to breathe. You caress the bottle reading every word that is written to make sure you didn't miss anything. You sneak a smell and close your eyes in anticipation. You have to leave the room, because just the shear thought of how that wine is going to caress your tongue and linger while bursting with all those amazing flavors you remember, is quite frankly, a little too much to handle.
But like a good love song by Barry White, who sings with such passion that you can hear it in his voice. I feel the same way about wine. My passion for wine is more than just tasting it. To truly enjoy wine, I feel you have to let it take over all your sense of smell and taste. Wine for me is an expression of the entire process that wine went through to be made.
I am not saying that Wine is better than Sex, but sometimes in a rare moment, it comes real close. :)
When the winemaker shares their wine with consumers, they are letting us get a glimpse of their soul. I know that may sound a little corny, but think about it. They are taking their most prized work of art and taking a chance that you are going to fall in love with their wine or not. Like going on a date for the first time.. You want to set a good impression, right!
The wine exudes the passion, blood, sweat, and tears of the winemaker and I for one love hearing the story that makes the wine that much more special. So, grab that special bottle, listen to some Barry White, included below, and grab that special someone..
