I met Jared at the Portland Seafood and Wine Festival this past February. He and his wife Lari were pouring tastes of their wine. My husband, Dave and I were super impressed with the line of wines he chose to pour. All of his wines are amazing. It isn't often you can say that about all the wines a winemaker makes. Sometimes there is one or two that you will drink but are not in love with! Not in this case. In fact, we were ready to sign up for the wine club. I will get to that in a bit.
A little background on Jared and his family.. They moved from Utah were he started his adventure in the winemaking in 1999 with 250 lbs of Riesling. Every new winemaker goes through those good and bad batches of wine and Jared will be the first to tell you, that those first batches were Uck! The family decided to move to Oregon and they bought a piece of property in Sherwood, OR where they have a house, a vineyard and a tasting room/winemaking facility.
The drive to Rallison Cellars is very pretty and way too close to my house. :) I love being so close to these wineries.. Lucky for me, I have to actually make an appointment to get wine from Jared. But I bet he will make accommodations for me!
The day was beautiful on the day I visited Rallison Cellars. The Winery has the tasting room up front and it is a really good size for when he does his Pick Up parties for Wine Club.
On the day we were tasting, here is what we had to choose from.. Choose, heck we tasted them all.
- 2013 Rose' - Barron Wahl Vineyard
This Rose' is very crisp and dry. A nice summer day sitting under a shade tree would pair nicely.
- 2012 Riesling - Janice Vineyard
Slight Acidity with some citrus notes. This is not a sweet Riesling.. Very nicely done.
- 2012 Chardonnay - Dennison Estate
Apricots, pineapple. Very soft allowing all the fruits to come through on the palate.
- 2013 Viognier - Horseleap Vineyard
Oh... This one is one of my favorites. Creamy and soft.
- 2011 Pinot Noir - Horseleap Vineyard
Slightly Smokey with soft smells on the nose. a little more luscious for a Pinot. Slightly dry. Liked this one.
- 2012 Pinot Noir - Barron Wahl Vinyeard
This Pinot is very jammy and lighter with still the same dryness. It gives you the feeling of a Big Pinot Noir
- 2013 Pinot Noir - Laree Vineyard (estate wine)
This one is still in the barrel. Right now it is soft and slightly dry.. I can tell it is going to be super yummy.
When you go see Jared, tell him Kim sent you... :)
