Now you may say, we got something from all of them.. Well, yes if you call getting a business card or a brochure a great marketing item. But the Winner goes to Recuerdo Wines They left a thumb drive with all their info on it. This way there were no trees killed in their marketing efforts. They also left a small bottle, probably a glass, of their 2011 Torrontes White Wine. What an AWESEOME idea! I don't think anyone else did that. So Kudos to Recuerdo's Marketing team to a job well done!
Now the question becomes, will I drink the wine? Well, let's just say, unless I run out of wine and am in need a glass cause I can't possibly do with out, then the answer is "NO"! This one will be a true memento of my trip, and guess what else? It will be a conversation piece that will continue its marketing efforts every time I talk about it or it will bring back memories of my trip!
So, next time I go to a Wine Bloggers Conference, instead of getting business cards and brochures, the winemakers should give out thumb drives and tiny bottles of the wine we are tasting.
Tasting Notes for the 2011 Torrontes:
The emblematic white wine of Argentina, the 2011 Recuerdo Torrontés is cultivated in the Argentine province of La Rioja. The quality of this region results in extremely aromatic varieties. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fruit intensity and lively aromatics. Bright, fresh, and full of summer, Torrontés has a clean straw color with aromatic points of lemon spritz, citrus, and tart white flowers. The mouth is filled with tropical fruit, fresh with mineral notes and clean essences. It is streamlined with fresh orange zest that rounds out with acidity and ripe pears that linger into a lush finish.
