Anam Cara Cellars teamed up with Jason and his crew at Northwest Fresh Seafood in Newberg, OR. Anam Cara and NWSF are literally about a block from each other.
We arrived probably around 1pm ish and met Anne at the Tasting Bar. She got us all set up with our glasses and our first Chardonnay to pair with the crab. It was the 2012 Chardonnay, which was done in stainless steel. Very crisp, with notes of Tropical Fruits, lemon, and honey. The taste was perfect. We paired it with a crab dip, and a cranberry crab cream cheese tart and a crisp tiny cracker with crab and like a little lemon zest on it. I obviously ate everything and totally forgot to take a photo... my bad.. Trust me.. it was amazing!
The second Chardonnay was the 2012 Reserve. This Chardonnay was fermented in two new French oak barrels and eight neutral oak barrels. This one I could definitely pull out the oak, but it still was overwhelming. My favorite was the Stainless one.. Again, we got to try the crab appetizers with the Reserve Chardonnay.. I have to say that Chardonnay and Crab is a perfect pairing.. You should try it.
NWFS was also selling crabs at the event, so you guessed it, we had crab and Chardonnay. I purchased the 2012 Chardonnay (stainless) to pair.. Check out the video review here. It was a scrumptious evening. Everyone was guaranteed knowing what was for dinner!
After that tasting, we decided to belly up to the bar and taste a flight of what else Anam Cara was tasting that day. Oh boy, what a treat!
- 2012 Riesling - semi sweet
Although a semi sweet it was a very nice well rounded wine. I could drink this with a sharp white cheddar
- 2012 Riesling - Dry
Crisp and refreshing.. I think it might have been a little too cold
- 2010 Nicholas Estate Pinot Noir
Smoky, light, slight dry finish, very balanced with a super nice finish
- 2011 Nicholas Estate Pinot Noir
Peppery, spicy, and super yummy
- 2011 Reserve Estate Pinot Noir
mossy, woodsy, slightly dry on the finish with some tannins. this wine gives you the feeling of a big Pinot
- 2009 Heather's Vineyard Pinot Noir
Very floral, a little more jamminess on the nose and definitely full of berries on the tongue
- 2009 Mark IV Pinot Noir
Wet stone, a little minerally, pepper, spice and big tannins.. really liked this one.
After our tasting treat, we headed over to Northwest Seafood to pick up some Oysters... Dave was super excited to find a fresh seafood store.. and it isn't too far from our house.
I have to give a shout out to Anne, she greeted us when we walked in the door, took care of us right away and even offered the wine club right up front. I have never had that happen.. She was explaining that the club members get a better discount on the wine that day as well as the tasting. Made sense to me.. Kudos Anne for doing a great job and taking care of us!
If you have never visited Anam Cara Cellars or the Northwest Fresh Seafood Store... You should probably do this!
