The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey Wins 12 Medals

The 25th Annual Taster’s Guild Wine Competition was held April 25th-April 28th, 2012, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey was a clear favorite, winning three gold medals and seven silver medals for the same wines that are favored along the Front Range. Over 2,200 wines from 8 countries and 33 states were evaluated.

“By sponsoring this wine judging event, it is the objective of Taster’s Guild to give the consumer a reference point in choosing quality wine values”, said Tasters Guild President Joe Borello. “It’s great to see such vast improvement in the newest wine producing states. Colorado wines get more awards every year, and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has always shown well in our competition.”

Bringing home the gold were the 2009 Colorado Jubilation, the 2009 Colorado Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Sangre de Cristo Nouveau. The following medals were also awarded:

SILVER
  • 2009 Colorado Merlot
  • 2009 Colorado Syrah
  • 2009 Colorado Syrah Reserve
  • 2010 Colorado Cabernet Franc
  • Apple Blossom
  • Vineyard Sunset
  • American Riesling
BRONZE
  • 2009 Colorado Revelation
  • 2011 Wild Cañon Harvest

This is a very exciting event.  I have to say that the Abbey makes some great wines.  If you have yet to visit them, they are located in Canon City, CO.

I can speak from experience that the 2009 Colorado Reserve Syrah and the 2010 Cab Franc are two of my favorite wines from the Abbey.
